David Johns III

A collage artist working across mixed media, combining abstraction and representationalism. Johns creates original collage materials and brings manipulated digital imagery together with block-relief printing to produce singular monoprints. Influenced by Basquiat, Sam Gilliam, Romare Bearden, Kerry James Marshall, and the African diaspora, the work explores religion and spirituality through the histories of slavery and 1970s comic books. Johns describes the practice as Afro Neo-Expressionism.
